LSU Online: Technical Requirements


This page lists requirements and suggestions for LSU Online students to enjoy full functionality of their courses. If students have questions about specific requirements for a course, they should consult the university catalog or the course instructor. Suggested Minimum Computer Requirements:

  • Desktop or laptop device
  • 250 GB hard drive or more
  • 4 GB RAM or more
  • 2.4 GHz processor or faster
  • Windows 10 or current Mac OS X
  • 1024 x 768 resolution monitor or better
  • Anti-virus program (updated regularly)
  • Microsoft Office (latest version) or alternative if it is compatible with Microsoft Office
  • Acrobat Reader
     

Note on Chromebooks and other tablets: Although many students use Chromebooks to complete course work, the use of this device for taking a Moodle course is not recommended. Chromebooks and tablet devices are not compatible with ProctorU software.

Note about mobile devices: Although Moodle and other software are considered compatible with any smart device, some course components may not be compatible with a specific device. Submitting graded work to Moodle via a mobile device is not recommended.

Internet Connection: A reliable internet connection, high speed broadband recommended. No extensions or waivers will be granted for problems with an internet service provider (ISP).


Web Browser

The web browser you use should always be updated regularly otherwise Moodle, web pages and other content can break.

  • Google Chrome
  • Safari
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Mozilla Firefox

 

Other devices and equipment

Note that many courses may require:
  • A webcam
  • Working microphone and speakers (A headset or earbuds with microphone may be a better option)

Some courses may require the following:
  • Multimedia software (audio or video production or manipulation)
  • JavaScript enabled
  • Industry-specific software as per the course syllabus
